You can also use cloth wipes to save even more! It is also a lot easier to just throw the cloth wipes in with your diaper laundry rather than having an additional garbage can for the disposable wipes.
3. Cloth is better for baby. When you use cloth diapers, you know exactly what is touching your baby's delicate skin. No harsh chemicals, absorbent gels, or baby powder scents.
It has been suggested that the chemical used in disposable diapers can lead to asthma. Although sodium polyacrylate was removed from tampons because of toxic shock syndrome, it still remains in our babies' diapers for absorbency.
The bleaching agent used for the wood pulp used in disposable diapers is called Dioxin and is very toxic. It is a carcinogen and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says Dioxin is the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals.
Another chemical used in disposables is Tributyl Tin; it is an environmental pollutant. This toxin is known to cause hormonal issues in humans and animals.
Babies who are cloth diapered, also experience far less diaper rash.
4. Better for the Environment. On average, a baby will use 6000 disposable diapers over the 3 years he/she is in diapers. Imagine that pile of diapers sitting in YOUR backyard! Every day Canadians throw 4 MILLION diapers into landfills.
It takes 250 - 500 YEARS for a disposable diaper to decompose; long after your children, grandchildren, and great, great, great grandchildren will be gone.
The urine and feces in disposable diapers enter landfills untreated, possibly contaminating the ground water supply.
5. CONVENIENT! Just throw them in the wash. No need to load baby in the car & drive to the store just to get a bag of disposables.
6. More Reliable! I had blowouts all the time with disposables and not once with my cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are made to last. Disposables are made to be garbage.
7. Potty Train Earlier. Babies who are cloth diapered tend to potty train earlier than their disposable diapered counterparts because it is easier for them to tell when they are wet.
It is very difficult to comprehend how washing and reusing cloth diapers can be seen as an inconvenience. Quite the contrary; they are a financial investment, an investment in our children's health, and an investment in our planet. |
